Managing Geo-fences
Creating virtual boundaries on the map to monitor vehicle activity.
What is a Geo-fence?
A geo-fence is a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographic area. Think of it as drawing a digital boundary on a map around a location that is important to your business, such as a warehouse, a client's office, or a restricted area.
Why are Geo-fences Useful?
Geo-fences are the foundation for automating actions based on a vehicle's location. They allow you to stop watching the map and let the system notify you about important events.
- Automated Alerts: Get an instant notification the moment a vehicle enters or exits a specific location.
- Improved Security: Create a geo-fence around a depot and get an alert if a vehicle leaves it after hours.
- Customer Service: Automatically notify a customer when your delivery vehicle is about to enter their neighborhood.
- Operational Efficiency: Track how long vehicles spend at specific job sites to improve scheduling and billing accuracy.
For example, you can draw a geo-fence around your main warehouse. When this is linked to a Geo-fence Assignment, the system can automatically send an email to the warehouse manager every time a truck enters the area.
