Password Policy
Understanding the rules and best practices for a secure password.
Why is a Strong Password Important?
Your password is the primary key that protects your account and your company's sensitive fleet data. A weak or compromised password can expose vehicle locations, operational details, and other private information. Following these guidelines is the single most important step you can take to keep your account secure.
Password Requirements
When you create or change your password, the system will require it to meet the following minimum standards for strength:
- Must be at least 12 characters long.
- Must contain at least one uppercase letter (A-Z).
- Must contain at least one lowercase letter (a-z).
- Must contain at least one number (0-9).
- Must contain at least one special character (e.g.,
! @ # $ % ^ & *).
Password Strength Meter
As you type your new password, the system will show you a strength meter. Aim for a "Strong" rating before you save.
Best Practices: The Do's and Don'ts
Following the minimum requirements is good, but following these best practices is even better.
- Use a unique password. Your OmniFleet password should be different from your email, banking, or social media passwords. If one service is breached, a unique password ensures the attackers can't access your OmniFleet account.
- Use a password manager. Tools like Bitwarden, 1Password, or LastPass can generate and securely store long, complex, and unique passwords for you. This is the most highly recommended practice.
- Think "passphrase" instead of "password". A longer phrase like
Correct-Horse-Battery-Staple!is much stronger and easier to remember than a short, complex password likeJ%7d*fQ!.
- Don't use personal information. Avoid names, birthdays, anniversaries, pet names, or addresses. This information is often easy for others to find.
- Don't use common words or sequential patterns. Passwords like
password123,qwerty,12345678, orCompany_Name2024are extremely weak and easy to guess. - Don't share your password. Never share your password with anyone, including your manager or IT support. OmniFleet staff will never ask you for your password.
- Don't write it down. Avoid writing your password on a sticky note attached to your monitor or saving it in an unsecured text file on your computer.
